Holiday Trend Watch – Gothic Couture

by Erin Lawson on December 9, 2009

These are not the street gothic influences parents shutter at when seeing thier teen with black hair and black makeup! This holiday seasons fashions are being inspired by the current vampire influences seen in movies and television. Seems you can’t go anywhere without some character from Twilight showing up!

Some designers have used that popularity to create holiday fashions inspired by  the late 19th century. Elements such as waist cinching, krenalin, lace, and fur were very important elements then. Lots of holiday colors such as black and red are still on trend, but the addition of a soft ivory helps to change it up. They can be seen on everything from tuxedo jackets to skirts.

Another trend is in accessories. Shiny bags are winning out over matte and quilting has become big. Hardware accents are still adorning all of our favorite totes and shoes – and the variety helps those trends last throughout the season. Mix it up with an open toe heel for the early season and a closed toe shoe booty for later.

So now for the show stopper. If you only add one trend to your wardrobe this season it HAS to be the color red. Red is the biggest trend and the easiest to capture on a tight budget. Don’t be afraid to add some flair to an outfit with a red shoe or a shiny red bag. Go for a red accesories or lipstick. Dare for something drastic and watch it all pay off!
